A break in reflections for sustenance.
When you don't know how to say what you want to say, cook!
I have been stuck in a circle writing about the next reflection topic I had on my list to continue this sequence of New Year posts. We’ve been through faith and introductions, and I am still swimming through my next piece which isn’t ready for you yet.
Like I’ve said, I don’t want to be noise and I will sit on something I’m writing if it’s not well articulated for you. I’m going to sit on it for another week while I dive deeper.
Instead of reflections, I’m still going to share something helpful with you. Food! Today I made one of our family’s favorite meals.
This recipe is from one of my favorite places to go, The Cozy Cook. Thank you, Stephanie Melchione! I love her recipes as they give me groundwork for meals that my family all loves!
Sausage tortellini soup was for dinner. And you can click here to go straight to the recipe.
I made extra today to share, because when I think of warmth and comfort, this is one of the first recipes I go to.

Some notes about the recipe, I add extra oregano dried from our garden. Extra hot sauce and extra mustard powder. The flavor is unmatched! Spinach or kale work and don’t get overcooked when I add them very last. They don’t cook necessarily, just soften nicely. I will also add just about any veggie to the meat as it cooks. Carrots, peppers, radishes…This is a great recipe to hide veggies in. My littlest will even eat the kale, though. That’s how good soup is.
I use a large beef bone and make bone broth a night or two before I make this soup. Kosher salt and a large beef bone in the slow cooker. Cook on low for 12 to 18 hours or longer! I like to substitute bone broth for the chicken broth for the protein and flavor. Also, I have a giant bag of soup bones in the deep freezer from the butcher. It’s cheap and easy if you think about it ahead of time.
I serve this soup all by itself on a busy evening because it can stand alone well. When I do a side, Garlic and herb pull apart bread is the family favorite side dish. When I have time, I go all out with this one, because Baked by Rachel has the best recipe ever. Go straight to her recipe here!

I hope this finds you well this weekend! Smile often and get some good rest. Let me know what you think about these recipes! If you have an option for gluten free or sourdough pull apart bread that you like, would you send it my way? I’m experimenting and failing more often than succeeding with both.
Thanks for meeting me here while we juggle all of our many hats!
